The history of Islamic schools, coincided with the birth of transformation of South Africa into a democratic multicultural society. The seed of Islamic College Newcastle was planted in the sanctity of Musjidul Haraam. Following discussions that took place in Makkah, the founding fathers of Islamic College Newcastle together with the support of the Newcastle Muslim Community, set about establishing the college.
As is the idea, the use of the word “Islamic”, was for the college to commit to be shariah compliant in all aspects. It is an ideal we continuously strive to achieve in spite of certain shortcomings.
The word “college”, implies that this is not just a school but endeavours to be a community centre that will also cater for further adult education and life skills training. With Musjid Siddique as its focal point, future projects include adult education and training, computer training, a fully-fledged Islamic resource centre for the college and community use, as well as a community hall and sports centre.
Islamic College Newcastle was established in 1994 for the purpose of creating an institution that would amongst other things.
Promote the religious, social, spiritual and educational development of Muslim children.
Promote development and maintain Deen, culture, educational, social, economic and charitable services.
Promote, develop and unify the Islamic Educational System.
Further brotherhood and co-operation in the Muslim Community and to co-ordinate all Muslim activities in the locality.
To co-operate with other institutions having similar aims and objectives.
Fund, build, maintain and own Islamic Centre’s, libraries, masajids, madressah and other similar institutions for the benefit of Muslims residing in Newcastle and neighbouring and surrounding towns and to promote essentially the religious needs of the Muslim Community.
